This summer, Josh Kelley has teamed up to support the ConAgra Foods Foundation's Hunger-Free Summer program with Feeding America. He'll visit food banks around the country to raise awareness of childhood hunger in the U.S., as well as volunteering at food banks.
"Summer is supposed to be a care-free time for children and families. As a dad, I believe it's unacceptable that there are millions of children who can't enjoy their summer break because hunger is holding them back," Josh explained in a statement. "So this summer, I'll be volunteering at Feeding America network food banks across the summer so that more kids can have the meals they need to have a bright summer and an even brighter future when they return to school."
During the school year, 21 million children are able to have lunch each weekday thanks to the Department of Agriculture's free and reduced-priced school lunch program, available to low-income families. However, that program is not always in place when school lets out in the summer. With the Hunger-Free Summer program, meals are provided to many of these children because of grants made available to food banks in 20 states.
Josh, who will join Taylor Swift's Speak Now World Tour later this summer, has released his second single, "Gone Like That," from his debut country album, Georgia Clay.
