Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line Rumble in the Elevator

What happens in the elevator stays in the elevator? Sorry, Luke Bryan. That's not exactly true. Because, you know, surveillance cameras and the Internet and all that. So we saw what you did in that elevator with Florida Georgia Line on Wednesday night (June 4). And, we loved it.

Bryan and the duo's Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley put their own spin/spoof on the infamous elevator fight between Beyoncé's sister Solange Knowles and Jay Z that happened after the Met Gala in New York City on May 5.

While the country singers were inside the elevator, the grainy black-and-white image was captured of the three pushing and shoving. Kind of like fighting, but classier than the Knowles/Jay Z attack. (By the way, why was she so mad? It really makes you wish elevator cameras recorded audio.)
But the whole time Bryan, Hubbard and Kelley were going at it, the CMT Music Awards host Kristen Bell waited patiently for her elevator. Once the doors opened, the singers stopped fighting, and Bryan turned to Bell and said, "What happens in the elevator stays in the elevator."

It was all in jest, of course. Later in the show, Bryan and Florida Georgia Line's "This Is How We Roll" won the fan-voted award for best collaborative video. In his acceptance speech, Hubbard said, "I want to thank our fans, and I want to thank Luke Bryan for being part of this amazing ride with us and for letting us be a part of his ride."

The comic clip was part of a video skit poking fun at the fact that Bell had to host this year's show alone.

Power Women Dominate CMT Awards

It’s proving to be Carrie Underwood’s year as she picks up five nominations for the 2012 CMT MUSIC AWARDS, it was announced this morning live on NBC’s “Today” show by host Hoda Kotb and guest co-host Willie Geist with guests Little Big Town, who received a nomination in the CMT PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR category. The group also announced they will perform on this year’s live show.

Women lead the pack this year as Miranda Lambert follows closely behind Underwood with four nominations; two for her solo work and two as a member of country trio and first-time nominees Pistol Annies, who are up for GROUP VIDEO OF THE YEAR and USA WEEKEND BREAKTHROUGH VIDEO OF THE YEAR awards. Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift and Thompson Square are next in line tied for three nominations apiece. Duo The Civil Wars also received three nominations, including two for their collaboration with Taylor Swift on the hit song “Safe & Sound” from “The Hunger Games” soundtrack.

Voting ends Monday, June 4.

CMT Southern Fried Flicks' Hazel Smith to feature Jessi Colter & Jamey Johnson

Average Joes Entertainment, in conjunction with Scatter Records, announced the official release date for The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings, Volume II.

The album will be available for pre-sale purchase digitally on January 24, 2012, with availability at retail starting on February 7, 2012.

The eleven-track album, and the second of a three volume series dedicated to the late Waylon Jennings, features country music artists performing the hit songs that made Jennings a household name. The Music Inside, Volume II boasts a solid lineup of artists each of who were heavily influenced by Jennings’ legacy.

“I feel like this project could very likely break another sound barrier,” says Colter. “Waylon was so original. For his songs to be sang by other people and to take me somewhere else is not an easy task.”

Recording for the three volume series started over three-and-a-half years ago, and has been a labor of love for Jennings’ widow Jessi Colter; son Shooter Jennings; and guitarist Reggie Young. They, along with producer Witt Stewart, have assembled a star-studded roster of artists to pay tribute to Jennings and highlight his undeniable musical and cultural influence.

Colter adds, “I’ve been pleasantly surprised of the fact that the people involved chose to make the songs their own. They add something to it and to me that’s what makes it interesting. They made it their own because they could never walk in Waylon’s tracks. They’d be stepping in holes.”

Waylon Jennings is recognized as one of the key players of country music’s ‘outlaw’ movement. Jennings was in good company with fellow artists of his time including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson. They were the musical talents who defined a new genre of music with rebellious attitudes, which, in turn, translated over into their music. The ‘outlaw’ rebellion denied Nashville’s straight-laced model and brought the era of whiskey-drinkin,’ bar brawlin,’ woman lovin,’ country music to the forefront.

Fall Shows On CMT

CMT's Big New Music Weekend kicked off Friday with new clips from some of country's biggest stars. Zac Brown Band's "Keep Me in Mind," "If You Ain't Here to Party" by Luke Bryan, Justin Moore's "Bait a Hook" and Chris Young's "You" are among the videos premiering exclusively on CMT.

Toby Keith's "Red Solo Cup," Tony Bennett and Faith Hill's video for "The Way You Look Tonight" and CMT's Next Big Thing Artist Casey James's "Let's Don't Call It a Night" will premiere during CMT's regularly scheduled music hours.

All of these videos will be featured at CMT.com too.

CMT premieree its new show Social Hour Saturday at 9:00 p.m. ET with fan votes at CMT's Facebook page determining which videos will air on the program.

CMT Music Award Winners Last Night

Blake and Miranda have matching awards to display in their home.  Each won big awards in their categories at the CMT Awards Wednesday night.

Blake won the Male Video of the Year award for "Who Are You When I'm Not Looking" while Miranda took the female video award for "The House That Built Me."

Red Cross Disaster Relief Concert

Hank Williams Jr., Alabama, Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Ronnie Dunn, and Sara Evans will perform in Nashville on Thursday May 12 at a 90-minute CMT disaster relief concert. Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.


The Associated Press reported Williams initially wanted to do a local benefit, but then reached out to CMT to help make it bigger.“I don’t want to raise $50,000,” Williams said. “I want to raise a lot of money. And I want people who are motivated to be part of it as we try to help these devastated folks.”


“Basically home for me is Alabama,” Williams says. “That’s where mama and daddy are buried. That’s probably where I’m going to be. And I have lots of friends in Tuscaloosa. And, you know, I lived in Cullman for a long time, and Cullman was flattened.”


The tornado outbreak across the south was the second deadliest in the history of the United States. 329 people were killed across seven states.


The 90-minute special will air live from Nashville at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CMT and will be simulcast on CMT.com. Additional artists will be announced soon. Ticket information has not yet been released.
